The list of Nepali snacks is incomplete without including the Nepali equivalent of pizza – Chatamari.

Chatamari can be eaten plain or with eggs, meat and other vegetables as toppings. 

It is widely eaten as a snack and has become popular among other cultures too. Many restaurants has started to serve chatamari as an appetizer. 

This dish is made during special occasions like Jatra, Sithi Nakha which is one of the most important festival in the Newar community. 

 

Ingredients


2 cup of rice flour

3/4 cup of water

250 gram minced meat (chicken/turkey/lamb/buffalo)

4 eggs

1/2 cup chopped onion

1/4 cup chopped coriander

1/2 cup chopped tomato

1 tbsp green chopped chilli

1 tbsp green peas

1 tsp garlic and ginger paste

2 tsp cumin and coriander powder

1 tsp turmeric powder

1 tsp paprika powder

1 tsp meat masala/curry powder

1 tsp oil per Chatamari

Salt to taste

 

Instruction

In a bowl mix rice flour with water and make a thin batter . Keep in mind it should not be too runny. Add water little by little.

In another bowl, mix meat with coriander, garlic and ginger paste, cumin powder, turmeric powder, paprika powder, meat masala and salt. 

Heat a thick base pan and add 1 tsp of oil (add the oil only when the pan is completely hot)

Once the oil is hot, pour the thin batter like a pancake with a ladle and move the pan to spread the batter thinly all over the pan cook for 3-5 seconds.

Add a portion of the meat mixtures on top. Sprinkle onion, tomato, coriander, green chilli and the egg yolk on the top.

Then cover it with a lid on a low flame. Cook it for 3 to 4 mins. Make sure the egg is cooked to the desired consistency.

With the help of spatula carefully put it on a plate.

Chatamari is ready to serve, cut it like a pizza and enjoy.
